Philosophy: Loving Learning
The love of learning is fostered and intentionally cultivated in the Grammar Stage. The genuine and lifelong love of learning is established through classic children’s literature, fundamental math principles, spelling rules and life-enriching art and music. The Grammar Stage blends foundational knowledge with relevant principles, such as relationship building and social problem solving. This stage nurtures in a loving Christian environment.
The Veritas Collegiate Academy Grammar School curriculum is intentionally designed to build a strong academic foundation through classical education, rich content, disciplined study, and hands-on learning. Students progress systematically from foundational skills in the early grades to increasingly sophisticated analysis, research, and independent thinking.
Grammar & Composition: Students develop mastery of English grammar, sentence structure, editing, and written expression. Through narrative, descriptive, and expository writing, students progress toward organized research and more advanced written communication.
Bible: Our youngest students encounter Scripture through sequential Bible stories, thoughtful discussion, and the study of Christian virtues as they relate to daily life. Beginning in the elementary grades, students develop a comprehensive familiarity with Scripture from Genesis through Revelation, accompanied by regular assessment and discussion.
History: History is taught as a connected story rather than as isolated facts. Students begin with their immediate community and state before progressing through the great civilizations and eras of Western history—from the ancient world and Greco-Roman civilization through the Middle Ages, the Age of Exploration, and modern history.
Mathematics: Students build a strong mathematical foundation through a carefully sequenced program emphasizing computation, reasoning, problem-solving, and mathematical fluency. Students are challenged appropriately at each grade level, with opportunities for advanced mathematical study as they progress.
Latin: Beginning in Grade 2, students are introduced to Latin as an important component of their classical education. Latin strengthens vocabulary, grammar, precision of language, and the understanding of the roots of English and other languages while cultivating disciplined thinking.
Literature & Reading: Our Literature program develops strong readers who can read with fluency, comprehension, expression, and discernment. Students encounter carefully selected literature, participate in daily reading and discussion, and complete age-appropriate written responses, reports, and projects. As students advance, literature is increasingly connected to the historical periods and ideas they are studying.
Science: Science at Veritas begins with wonder and observation and progresses toward disciplined scientific inquiry. Students experience the natural world through age-appropriate investigation, experimentation, observation, field experiences, and the study of major scientific disciplines. The Veritas Difference Across the Grammar School, our curriculum is deliberately integrated. Literature reinforces history, Latin strengthens language, writing develops through every subject, mathematics builds logical thinking, science encourages careful observation, and Bible provides the foundation for understanding truth, virtue, and God’s creation. The result is a rigorous and engaging education designed to cultivate students who are knowledgeable, articulate, curious, disciplined, and prepared for the higher levels of classical learning at Veritas Collegiate Academy.
